Trampoline
Trampolining promotes muscle co-ordination, a sense of balance and stability in the body. Bouncing creates a pump effect, which positively affects muscles, bone density and metabolism. It is also great for aerobic fitness (68% more effective than jogging).
At MIGS, we have trampolining classes for children from age 7 through to adults, catering for all levels and abilities from beginners to more advanced and/or competitive. The gymnasts are taught basic trampolining skills that will help them achieve better co-ordination, flexibility, reaction time and strength. Classes are divided into three trampolining disciplines – trampoline, double mini-tramp (DMT), and tumbling.
- Trampoline – MIGS has a competition-sized trampoline (approx 5.2m x 3m) with safety frames at each end. Gymnasts start by learning basic trampoline skills and progress to more advanced skills.
- Double Mini-Tramp (DMT) –
A double mini-tramp is smaller than a regulation competition trampoline. It has a sloped end and a flat bed. The gymnasts run up and jump on to the sloping end and then jump on to the flat part before dismounting on to a mat. Skills are performed during the jumps or as they dismount. These skills are similar to those performed on a regular trampoline except that there is movement laterally along the trampoline. - Tumbling – Acrobatic tumbling is also a competitive sport, and is taught alongsidetrampolining from very basic rolls to more complex acrobatic skills. This increases body and space awareness necessary to perform increasingly difficult skills on the trampolines.
Trampoline classes at MIGS are based on the GymSport New Zealand Incentive Award programme which incorporates the above three disciplines. The incentive award scheme is designed to continue to develop gymnasts from a very basic level up to the highest international competitive level. Gymnasts learn a combination of a 'routine' and 'skills' and must demonstrate both to an adequate standard in order to progress to the next level. Upon passing, gymnasts are able to purchase a badge as an indication of their achievement.
