Few local clubs can boast of having an international star on their coaching team, however earlier this month the Mid-Island Gym Sports Club (MIGS) welcomed Dong Fangxiao to join their coaching team.

Xiao represented China in: the 1999 World Championships, 2000 Sydney Olympics (where she was a member of the Bronze Medal winning team), the Eastern Asian Games in 2001 (winning all 5 apparatus Gold medals and the Team Gold) and the 2001 World University Games (with 2 Gold medals).

Following a recurrent hip injury Xiao was forced to retire from competitive gymnastics and took up the position of judge for Women’s Gymnastics (vault) at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and served as the Technical Officer on the Chinese Olympic Committee.
